fairytale

fairytale, originally uploaded by sundayschoolrebel.

when I say it's over
I mean this

the dragon is gone
vanquished, as they say

I've plunged my sword into the ground

and as I wash my dirty dishes
I think of children playing years from now

in the field where I walked away from the fight
my sword abandoned
the rubyed hilt shining in the night

kudzu growing fast
and the snake sliding away

my sword in the hands of children
"Look," one cries
"There was a battle! Between a witch and a queen."

"No, look," says another one.
"It's a giant's pen.  He wrote a story and left his pen in the ground."

They will never know
the truth in their story.

Dragons and giants
witches and queens
fading into fairytale.

a giant's pen in the ground! I love this!

I love this. Beautiful. Thank you.

I am taken totally in by the authority of the first two lines, and thereafter, the poem takes off with its own myth-making. Just masterful.

Wow, this is quite cool. I love:

"No, look," says another one.
"It's a giant's pen. He wrote a story and left his pen in the ground."

A great turn there!

I love this.

I realize that this is going to be a completely inane comment and said mostly for my benefit (because really...you don't know me from adam and what do my thoughts matter). Anyway : )

I'm picky about poetry and embrace few poems and poets as one to cherish. That said, I simply lovelovelove this poem. Thank you : )

You have a MAJOR Gift for words, my dear Sam!
Now stop making me cry dammit ;)

Magical AND forceful. (Sorry I'm late to the party...the 'husband' had taken over the PC for a few days.) And I adore the photo.

Beautiful...words and picture.
