What a fun trip! Great photos! :)

Nick G.

Oh, thank you so much for this post, Sam! I am one of those who absolutely love this city, and I miss it so much. The last time I was able to be in New Orleans was early January of 2005, the winter before Katrina. I was able to see a bit of the Quarter then and stop by the Central Grocery for a muffuletta that time, but didn't get to spend much time there.

The pictures are wonderful, and I loved reading of your and the beautiful Carrie's escapades in the city of my youth! Also thanks for exposing me to a band whom I had not heard of before! I missed last week's A Prairie Home Companion or I would have apparently heard them there. I loved the first song you posted. The second was great, too, but I loved the first one. (Just a side note: Your layout causes the videos to be cut off on the right side, dunno how you would go about fixing that just off the top of my head.)

So thank you, thank you, thank you so much for this post! I saw your post alluding to it yesterday and was desperately looking forward to the pictures of the place I once called home (and still claim as a partial home, and would go back to in a heartbeat if I could).

Also, I have never been a huge fan of beignets, but I would kill for a beignet and some coffee in the Quarter right about now...

Oh, Sam, this sounds heavenly! A trip away in an exciting city with an old friend....the wandering....the exploring....Thanks for sharing! Your pictures made me feel like I was there. I have never been, but I have always wanted to go...maybe someday!

I love this, thank you! I won't kill you about the photos (this time) :) but I do wonder why you left the part out about the man playing piano with his windows open-- the one we happened upon on our way home. That was a stolen moment, but with his sweet wave, he turned it into a gift. Even D was smitten with that moment. :) Or, (oops) was that for a later post? Love you, so very much...

Sambolina- Guess what! Last night I was re-reading "The Crowning Glory of Calla Lily Ponder" (which I NEEEED to send you!) and when she moved to New Orleans she worked in the Camellia Grill. And also mentions several places we went, even Napoleon House! :)
